A set of photos taken this week and today – just before the final gloss is put on and London’s latest and much anticipated shopping and cuisine venue opens.
Coal Drops Yard is the latest shopping centre to open in London. Located just north of King’s Cross and St. Pancras stations, the old railway depots were utilised fora new purpose and modded by Thomas Heatherwick – who said the work was like putting two broken Kit Kats together and this explains the quite bulbous roofing – see main picture. This week was the first time I have seen the new roofs lit up.
Nice looking restaurant – needs a few customers though!
Well guys, what do you think of it all? (This is Portview – responsible for some of the store fit outs.)
Are you sure the brown wire is live? Could’ve sworn it was the blue.
Crawford’s van arrives. Nowt to do with biscuits though!
Always a concentrated number of construction workers staff out of sight down here. Keeps the photographers at bay!
Just wiping the glue off my hands….
All the gang is here. Open the doors at once!
Dusting the shelves. Mustn’t let one spot of dust be seen!
Flooring experts hard at work whilst others have top secret meetings or sort out non-working security cameras.
Right we’re where no-one can hear or lip-read us. Remember this meeting is private. Now the big question – are we on time and on budget?
Video being made of people giving their views and opinions of the new Coal Drops Yard.
Caravane’s store – loads of bedding and other soft, squishy goods….
Come on make it quick we’ve loads more stuff to deliver before tomorrow!
Chefs’ meeting for the big day. Have we got salt? Yep. Pepper? Yep. Clean plates for the customers? Erm….
White van man makes a mandatory appearance…
Leaving us so soon? Well you guys gotta sign out. Can’t sign in and not sign out!
Damn! This is bad news. We are not on budget. Who’s fault is that?
Security guards hard at surveillance. Yes keep your eyes peeled out the cameras do not work…
Technicians frenetically working to get the security cameras up and running. This one wasn’t even connected!
Setting up the exhibition on the Coal Drops Yard’s history.
We cant wait for it to open! Two happy guys pose for my camera. The guy on the right once worked here and is surprised how much has changed.
Coal Drops Yard opens tomorrow 26th October. I’ll be there with a collection box for deprived bloggers desperately in need of a bit of cash 🙂
